What i took into consideration before i choose my student accomodation.
When I was looking for an accommodation in the UK, I kept several questions in mind to ensure I find the right place to live. Here are some of questions:
What are the rent costs?:
You want to know how much it costs each month. make sure it's something you can afford. you try to avoid places right in the middle of the city because they're usually really expensive.
Instead, you look at places further away from the city center, like in the suburbs. The rent tends to be cheaper there, which means you can find better accomodations with less price without breaking the bank.
What is included in the rent?:
I always recommend renting all inclusive to avoid calculations and unexpected additional bills. Ask openly what utility bills are included in the monthly rent,(gas, water, electricity, internet, and any other).
If they are not, the rent will always be changed based on the monthly consumption, you ask about any additional fees such as agency fees, maintenance fees, or council tax, to avoid unexpected costs.,
What is the location like?:
it's good to check how close it is to your university. Being near campus can save you time and money on transportation. Speaking of which, you ll want to see what public transportation options are available nearby.
This can make it easier to get around the city without a car. Finally, think about what's around the neighborhood. Are there shops, restaurants, and parks nearby? Having these amenities close by can make your life a lot easier and more enjoyable.
Is the accommodation furnished?
it's smart to ask if it already has furniture or not. If it's furnished, that means it already has stuff like beds and kitchen things.
This can save you a lot of money because you won't need to buy those things yourself. Buying new beds and kitchen stuff can be expensive, especially when you're already paying for university fees.
So, it's a good idea to make sure the place you're renting comes with the basics to help you save money in the beginning.
What are the lease terms?
When you're looking for a place to stay, it's important to ask how long you can rent it for. This is called the duration of the lease.
You might want to know if the contract is flexible, which means if you can change it easily if needed. It's also good to ask if there are any rules about giving notice before you move out. This is called the notice period.
Asking these questions helps you understand how long you can stay, if you can make changes, and how much time you need to give before leaving.
Is there security and safety measures in place?:
As a student, it's really important to know how safe your new place is going to be.
So, don't hesitate to ask about the security stuff. Like, are there good locks on the doors and windows? Are there any alarm systems to keep you safe? And hey, you'll definitely want to know if the area is considered safe all day long.
Knowing these things can help you feel more comfortable and secure in your new home away from home.
Are there shared facilities houses & appartment?:
Asking about communal facilities including kitchens, baths, and common areas is important.
You might also wish to know the number of individuals who will be using these facilities with you and, if applicable, their nationalities.
By being aware of these specifics, you may guarantee a peaceful and comfortable living environment and keep clear of many delicate situations or unexpected challenges in these housing arrangements.
